Custom insist on Form‑M for Free Trade Zones

On a recent working visit to the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) at Lekki, the Comptroller of Tin Can 2 command, Comptroller Lami Wushishi made it clear that the operators of the FTZ are to comply with the Form-M policy which binds on all imports.

Lami noted that for the economy to improve, government’s revenue would have to top
the list and this cannot be feasible if operators don’t full their Financial obligation as regards the Form-M.

Hence, she called on the Central bank to have a closer look at the Form-M issue.
The Customs Comptroller pointed out that the Service would continue to work on its
Comptroller-General’s three point agenda, adding that decision must be taken by officers
on ground due to distance between the command and the zone.

She applauded the giant strides of the operators, noting that the enormous potentials of
the FTZ is capable of creating jobs for thousands of job seekers and the
Nigeria Customs Service would always be willing to work with them to actualize this
dream, calling for synergy and cooperation between government agencies and investors.

The Deputy Managing Director of Lekki Free Zone Development Company,
Popoola Jaiyesimi, suggested to the Customs boss that asides the Form-M matter, government should set up a committee that would address the problems faced by operators.
